Yesterday my roomie, Shay, & I finally decided to bite the bullet & purchase hangings for our living room wall. It has been despicably bare since we moved in 2 months ago. My, has it really only been 2 months? Wow…Anyway, we searched & searched. We almost settled on some harmless Van Gogh’s but the vision of our wall was not forthcoming. We decided to go the Distribution Center just to see what they had. We were a bit overwhelmed by the choices & walked out of the store 30 minutes later with 6 copies of the General Conference Ensign to hand out like candy. Hardly productive to our cause, but still, it changed my whole outlook. How selfish I’ve been of late. Must get back on track…We walked next door to Deseret Book. I distracted myself long enough from the book section to make it to the large collection of prints in the back corner. I had a strong urge to buy them all. Del Parson, Simon Dewey, Greg Olsen, I could feel the Spirit engulfing our living room already with such a focus on Christ. We gave in, purchased 2 small Simon Dewey’s (Living Water & The Good Shepherd) & 3 mats. We went back to the Distribution Center to purchase the Hofmann we’d been mulling over as the centerpiece to our obvious masterpiece, then back to Michael’s to purchase 3 lovely ornate bronze frames (50% off, woot-woot!). Back at the house, I meticulously measured the distance between & hung the paintings exactly proportioned to our liking. As Shay & I settled in for our movie of the night (Little Women….I cried again), our eyes kept gravitating back to our most perfect of walls. Why hadn’t we thought of this before?? It’s so easy & yet I think I can safely say, it has changed the whole spirit of our apartment. It finally feels like a home…
“Home is love, understanding, trust, welcome, and a sense of belonging.”
